Steve Mnuchin Wanted $25K-An-Hour Government Jet For European Honeymoon With Model Wife
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin wanted a government plane as transportation for his honeymoon with third wife Louise Linton – a request that was denied and raised concerns from the Treasury Department’s inspector general.
Mnuchin married Linton in June, and the two went on a star-studded vacation together last month – jetting off to Scotland, France and Italy. According to documents from the department, Mnuchin asked for a government plane – at a cost of $25,000 an hour – to shepherd the couple around Europe.
Mnuchin justified the request by saying that he needed a military aircraft for security reasons and in case he needed to engage in confidential communications. Ultimately, the department nixed the request, and other arrangements were made.
Mnuchin, a leading Wall Street money-man and President Trump ally, has come under fire for his use of government resources and the conspicuous consumption of wife Linton – who regularly posts about her luxe wears on social media. The department’s inspector general is investigating the couple’s use of a government plane in July to travel to watch the solar eclipse in Fort Knox, Kentucky.
