American Tourist In Germany Does Nazi Salute, Gets Beaten Up

An American tourist in the German city of Dresden was punched by a stranger after the tourist gave the Nazi salute in public multiple times, local police say.

Police say that the 41-year-old tourist had “an extremely high blood alcohol level,” according to the Associated Press. The tourist, who suffered minor injuries, is under investigation for violating Germany’s strict laws against displaying or promoting Nazi symbols. His name is not being released for privacy reasons, police said.

The assailant, who fled the scene and has yet to be tracked down, is also being sought by police and may be questioned for his actions.

Two Chinese tourists were arrested in Berlin earlier this month for making the illegal salute in front of the Reichstag parliament building. If convicted, they could be fined or jailed for up to three years.
