Bernie Sanders Faces Questions About FBI Investigation Into Wife
As the FBI investigates whether Bernie Sanders’ wife committed loan fraud in obtaining funds for a Vermont college she once headed, the senator has been loath to answer questions about the matter.
Asked by a Fox News reporter on Monday about the probe, Sanders deflected to talk about health care. “Well I’m glad that you’re interested in the fact that the Republican leadership is proposing legislation which would throw millions of people off of health insurance,” he said.
The Vermont senator has previously implied the investigation is politically motivated, and it indeed was instigated by Brady Toensing, President Trump’s campaign manager in Vermont. But he and his wife have quietly hired attorneys to represent them in this matter, and have refused to give detailed commentary to the press now that an inquiry is underway.
Jane Sanders was once the president of Burlington College, a small liberal arts institution that shuttered last year after failing to stabilize its finances.
