Trump: Jared Kushner — Like James Comey — Has Become ‘Much More Famous Than Me’

President Donald Trump lamented his diminished status within the White House on Tuesday, joking that his advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner had become “much more famous than me.” “I’m a little bit upset about that,” he’s also reported to have said.
Trump made the comments during a meeting with congressional leadership, including Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, shortly after telling reporters in the room that he wishes fired FBI Director James Comey luck ahead of his Thursday Senate testimony.
Far from a passing comment, it’s significant in that Trump famously used the exact same phrasing in describing then-FBI Director Comey back in February at a reception for law enforcement at the White House.
The cycle echoes a politician often cast as one of Trump’s forebears: Rudy Giuliani. The story goes that Giuliani, then mayor of New York City, was becoming increasingly frustrated with the amount of credit Police Commissoner William Bratton was receiving in the press for the sharp downturn of crime. When Bratton made the cover of Time Magazine, it was the last straw, and he was gone within the year.
