Brooklyn Park Named For Rapper Adam Yauch Holding Weekend Party

The Brooklyn park named for the late Beastie Boys member Adam Yauch, perhaps better known as “MCA,” will be throwing a party this Sunday for local residents to eat, play and listen to the rap group’s hits.

“The park event is a time to really reflect on Adam’s life, appreciate his ongoing influence in the world, and simply be grateful that we had this guy around as a role model in the first place. It’s bittersweet,” organizer Mike Kearney told Gothamist.

Kearney is also the force behind MCA Day, a celebration of Yauch’s life that occurs annually during late summer.

Yauch died in 2012 and the park in Brooklyn Heights was soon named after him. The park was defaced with anti-Semitic graffiti last year, sparking a well-attended community protest.
