Mnuchin Spearheads Trump’s Tax Reform Push
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin is the forefront of shaping the policy and liaising with House Republicans who will have to pass it into law.
“So we’re in very good shape on tax reform,” Trump said at a rally in Wisconsin last week. “We’re going to surprise you. Right, Steve Mnuchin? Right?”
Mnuchin has previously said that he wants to pass a tax reform package before the year is out, and according to Politico he has been meeting with the head of the House’s Ways and Means Committee, the body in charge of tax policy.
Trump has promised to deliver the largest tax cut ever, but it’s not clear who will benefit most, and how such a policy would be paid for.
Democrats have vowed to oppose tax reform until Trump releases his own tax returns — since they believe that he might benefit financially from his own plan.
