Ivanka Trump Faces Class-Action Lawsuit Over ‘Unfair Competition’
A San Francisco clothing company is leading a class-action lawsuit against Ivanka Trump, claiming the First Daughter gets an unfair advantage and trying to stop her from “competing unfairly” in California.
Modern Appealing Clothing claims that the Ivanka Trump Marks clothing brand is getting unconstitutional benefits because her father is president, she and her husband work for him, and that she, the president and their agents are improperly promoting the brand.
“Ivanka Trump’s sales of women’s clothing and accessories have surged since the election because of unlawful, unfair or fraudulent promotional activities,” attorneys R. Michael Lieberman and Patricia Henle wrote.
They pointed as examples to President Trump condemning Nordstrom dropping Ivanka Trump’s brand, counselor Kellyanne Conway endorsing Ivanka Trump’s products during a TV interview, and White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer supporting Ivanka Trump’s company.
MAC claims these offenses violate the U.S. Constitution and California law. It’s not clear how Ivanka Trump’s sales have any direct impact on other retailers and the company admits the extent of its losses are “difficult to quantify.”
