There Are Now Bernie Sanders-Themed High Heels
Bernie Sanders is famous for his norm-core look, with his ill-fitting suits and rumpled shirts. But that hasn’t stopped one design house from using the socialist icon as inspiration for its new high-heels, debuting at Paris Fashion Week a shoe that incorporates the logo of the Vermont senator’s campaign.
The Balenciaga high heel is red and embellished with a logo that mimics the one Sanders used in his presidential campaign – white and blue squiggly lines set below the brand’s name, printed in campaign-style font. It’s not the first time that the fashion company has celebrated Sanders, bringing out a series of hoodies, polos and windbreakers with a similar design in January.
Sanders has laughed off Balenciaga’s tribute, responding that he’s no “fashion maven or great dresser.” In an ironic twist, the French fashion firm isn’t exactly for the 99 percent, with its garment running into the hundreds of dollars a piece. But the Bernie-themed apparel seems a bit cheaper – with T-shirts available on the Internet for around $20.
