Chuck Schumer Says Obama Wiretap Tweets Show Trump Is ‘In Trouble’

Chuck Schumer says President Trump’s flailing out at Barack Obama is a sign that he’s feeling squeezed by the federal investigation into his associates’ ties to Russia.

The Senate Minority Leader said if Trump’s charge about Obama supposedly tapping his phones is proven false, it is proof he “doesn’t know how to conduct himself.”

“It’s even worse,” if Trump’s claim is correct because that would mean authorities got authority from a judge to authorize surveillance on Trump, based on evidence.

“Either way … the President is in trouble,” Schumer told on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said on CNN’s “State of the Union” that Trump’s allegation about Obama was a tactic more commonly used by strongman leaders.

“It’s the tool of an authoritarian, to just have you always be talking about what you want them to be talking about it,” she said.

Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House intelligence panel, also slammed Trump.

“For a President of the United States to make such an incendiary charge … is as destructive as it was baseless,” he said.—Reuters
