March 29-April 4: Israel: Yiddish Forverts Takes On The Holy Land

Yiddish Forward editor Rukhl Schaechter is sprinkling in a few speaking engagements during her upcoming 10-day trip to Israel.
She will begin Friday, March 29 by teaching a cooking class in Yiddish at The Cooking Studio in Tel Aviv. She’ll repeat the lesson in Jerusalem on April 4 (the location will be determined soon).

The next morning, at 11:15 a.m., she’ll speak about “The Yiddish Forward – Then and Now” in English at the Kehillat Yedidya Synagogue in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Baka.
On Sunday, March 31 at 2 p.m., she will give a lecture in Yiddish (with a smattering of English) on “The History of Gefilte Fish and Other Ashkenazi Dishes” at the Bet Yehudit Community Center in Jerusalem. It will be a delicious look at the past of an iconic Jewish food.
