The Forward is here to help you see “From Shtetl to Stage: A Celebration of Yiddish Music and Culture” at Carnegie Hall.
The concert — on Monday, April 15 at 8 p.m. — is part of the historic Manhattan theater’s citywide festival, “Migrations: The Making of America.” Eager to share the experience with readers, the Forward secured coveted seats in the Orchestra section.
The event celebrates the evolution of Yiddish culture from the Old World to modern day through music, poetry and drama. Some recognizable performers include Forward Association member and our 2018 gala emcee Joanne Borts; Daniel Kahn, who sang at the Forward’s 120th Anniversary gala; and Katrina Lenk, the lead actress in “The Band’s Visit.”
Tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

In advance of the concert, catch Forward archivist Chana Pollack on April 10 at 7 p.m. at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, where she’ll give a lively presentation showcasing the Forverts’ newspaper ephemera. Through archival ads and photos about music, she’ll give a glimpse into how Jewish immigrants were offered a platform for entry into the dream of America.
