January 26: Manhattan: ‘Fire In My Mouth’
‘Fire in my Mouth,” a musically and visually engaging exploration of the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, will be performed at the New York Philharmonic in Manhattan on Saturday, January 26.
A new composition written by Julia Wolfe and conducted by Jaap van Zweden, “Fire in my Mouth” will feature lights, chamber choir, video and projection in its retelling of the industrial tragedy that killed more than 100 young immigrants. It is part of the philharmonic’s series, “New York Stories: Threads of Our City.”
The audience is also encouraged to wander around the New York Philharmonic Archives exhibit, “Immigrant New York: Celebrating the Workers and Musicians of Our City,” which features archival materials from the Forward, along with the Museum of the City of New York, the National Archives at New York City and the Kheel Center at Cornell University.
After the show, there will be a special friends of the Forward reception by invitation only.
