July 3: Chautauqua, New York: ‘Being Jewish In Trump’s America’: In Chautauqua, Jane Eisner Discusses Jewish Life
Every summer, the Everett Jewish Life Center in Chautauqua, New York, hosts a series of programs to engage religious leaders and communities, creating dialogue and a space for interfaith learning and understanding. This year, Forward editor-in-chief Jane Eisner will be one of its featured speakers.

Jane will take the stage July 2 at 3:30 p.m. for her discussion, Being Jewish in Trump’s America. She says: “The election of Donald Trump exaggerated every fault line in American society — and in Jewish life. Jews can no longer think of themselves as a safe, secure model minority. But this is also a moment alive with opportunity, a chance to make bold new choices.”
Her next talk, “Beyond the Shtetlesphere: Jewish journalism Today,” on July 3 at 12:30 p.m., will have her diving into the current media climate: “When the Forward launched in 1897 as a Yiddish daily for the immigrant community, Jewish journalism served as central touchstone for Jews seeking to become Americans. Now, 120 years later, the challenge for Jewish journalism in the digital age is to serve a more dispersed, assimilated readership that still is seeking Jewish community, but in different ways.”
