‘Indecent’ Won’t Close On Broadway After All — At Least, Not Yet

“Indecent,” Paula Vogel’s tribute to Sholem Asch’s “God of Vengeance,” will stay open on Broadway somewhat longer than expected.
Battling low ticket sales, after winning two Tony Awards on June 11 the play’s production team announced that its last performance at the Cort Theater would be June 25.
Yet ticket sales took a significant turn for the better over the past week, enough that producer Daryl Roth told The New York Times she expected this week’s box office sales to “double” that of recent weeks. The play is now scheduled to close on August 6.
Roth, Vogel, and director Rebecca Taichman, who won a Tony Award for her work on the play, took to Twitter to express their joy at the play’s extension — and to encourage audiences to keep filling seats.

Speaking to the Forward following the premiere of “Indecent” Off-Broadway in 2016, Vogel offered a glimpse at her hopes for the play. If it made it to Broadway, she said, “I would put on a sandwich board and walk the street in front of the theater every night.”
Looks like she’ll have a few more chances to follow through on that promise.
