TV Icon Norman Lear To Appear On ‘The Simpsons’

For Norman Lear, the legendary creator and producer behind some of television’s most formative comedies — “All in the Family,” “One Day at a Time,” and “The Jeffersons,” to name only a few — there are few Hollywood trophies yet to be won. He’s about to claim one of them: A guest spot on “The Simpsons.”

As EW reported, Lear, 94, will make a brief cameo in an episode of the long-running comedy series’ 29th season, expected to premiere on Fox this fall. He’ll follow in the footsteps of season 28 guest stars including Amy Schumer and Sarah Silverman.

“The Simpsons” is well known for featuring cameos by famous figures, many of whom, like Stephen Hawking, Paula and Linda McCartney, Lady Gaga, and Stan Lee, have played themselves. Like those august figures — well, if “The Simpsons” has anything to say about them, perhaps not quite so august — Lear will appear as himself in a sequence that will involve the theme song of one of his shows.

Lear is currently working as an executive producer of the Netflix reboot of “One Day at a Time.”
