Do Jews Put Up Christmas Trees?

To deck the halls with boughs of holly, or to stick with just the menorah, though not as jolly?

Thanks to assimilation, most American Jews have the option of opting into many elements of the dominant culture — which in the December means free reign to put up a big, beautiful pine tree in your house, carpeting and seasonal allergies be damned.

But should we?

Let us know what you do in this poll, and feel free to send us your Christmas tree story:

Do you have a burning Hanukkah (or holiday season) debate you want to have our readers settle? The Great Hanukkah Debates will continue until the end of the holiday, December 20, 2017. Email us at [email protected] and we just might feature your question.

A message from our Publisher & CEO Rachel Fishman Feddersen

I hope you appreciated this article. Before you go, I’d like to ask you to please support the Forward’s award-winning, nonprofit journalism during this critical time.

We’ve set a goal to raise $260,000 by December 31. That’s an ambitious goal, but one that will give us the resources we need to invest in the high quality news, opinion, analysis and cultural coverage that isn’t available anywhere else.

If you feel inspired to make an impact, now is the time to give something back. Join us as a member at your most generous level.

With your support, we’ll be ready for whatever 2025 brings.
