Beloved New York Police Rabbi Attacked on Manhattan’s West Side

The New York Police Department’s popular chief chaplain, Rabbi Alvin Kass, was attacked as he walked on Riverside Drive in Manhattan.

Rabbi Kass, 80, was wearing a tracksuit when an unknown assailant shoved him to the ground and ran off around 6:45 am on Sunday, the New York Post reported.

Kass suffered a cut to the right side of his head. He was taken to a hospital and treated and released.

“Thank God nothing’s broken,” Kass told the paper.

Police are investigating the attack but there was no immediate sign that the attacker knew who Kass was or that he is a rabbi.

Kass, has served as the NYPD’s Jewish chaplain since 1966. He was promoted to chief chaplain in 2002.
